Mr. Vort graduated from Columbia University School of Law in 1968 and from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce of the University of Pennsylvania in 1965. Following a judicial clerkship, he has spent his entire career in the private practice of law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association and Bergen County Bar Association. Within the American Bar Association, he is a member of the Section of Litigation and of its Trial Evidence Committee. He is head of a subcommittee to establish a brief bank on evidentiary issues for section members.

He is also a member of the Council of Appellate Lawyers of the Judicial Administration Division. Mr. Vort served as a member of the Executive Board of the Council and as chairman of its Rules Committee which examined the statutes and rules governing appeals in the federal court system and issued a report to the Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Appellate Practice. The Committee is now preparing a report on the status of electronic filing in the state and federal courts of the United States.

Mr. Vort is serving as chairman of the Federal Practice Committee of the Bergen County Bar Association and as vice chair of the Appellate Practices Study Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association; he has served as chariman of the Equity Jurisprudence Committee of the Essex County Bar Association. He authored several chapters to the first and current editions of the New Jersey Appellate Practices Manual, and he has spoken about appellate practice for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education and for the Bergen County Bar Association.
